A New Option for Slowing Childhood Myopia: Essilor® Stellest™ Lenses
We’re excited to share some great news for families with children who are nearsighted. The FDA has recently approved the Essilor® Stellest™ lens, an innovative spectacle lens designed specifically to help slow the progression of myopia (nearsightedness) in children.
Why Myopia Control Matters
Myopia often starts in childhood and tends to worsen as kids grow. While glasses or contacts can correct blurry distance vision, they don’t stop myopia from progressing. Higher levels of myopia are associated with an increased risk of eye health problems later in life, including retinal issues and glaucoma. That’s why myopia control—slowing how quickly nearsightedness gets worse—is so important.
How Stellest™ Lenses Work (In Simple Terms)
Stellest™ lenses look like regular glasses, but they’re designed with special lens technology that does more than just correct vision. The lens has a clear central zone for sharp vision, surrounded by a pattern of tiny, nearly invisible lens elements. These elements gently change how light focuses in the eye, sending signals that help slow excessive eye growth—the main cause of worsening myopia.
